Application Cycle Closed

Our Homeownership Program Information Sessions occur on an “As Needed” basis. As we have just ended an information session, this part of the cycle is now closed. Please use the form located on our Contact Us page to indicate you are interested in the Homeownership Program, and we will send you an email when the next cycle begins! You may also check back here regularly for updates.


  • Paying more than 30% of gross income on utilities and rent

  • Living in overcrowded housing

  • Living in substandard housing

  • Being a resident of subsidized housing

  • Does not own a home at time of application

  • Income: must be stable and fall between 30-80% of HUD Area Median Income Guidelines.

  • Delinquent Debt: All delinquent debt must be paid off before home purchase.

  • Outstanding Debt: Total debt to income ratio must not exceed 43%.

  • Credit Score: Sumter Habitat for Humanity does not require a minimum credit score for approval.

  • Household willing to perform minimum of 400 Sweat Equity hours

  • Have lived or worked in Sumter County for the last year

  • Committed to a drug-free community and no serious criminal history

  • Completion of homebuyer education course

  • Completion of financial literacy course

  • Save for closing costs and other related expenses

  • Participate in Sumter Habitat for Humanity events

Information Session

All interested individuals are invited to attend a mandatory program information session and will receive the program application packet required to move forward in the process.
