Qualifications

NEED FOR HOUSING
  • Paying more than 30% of gross income on utilities and rent

  • Living in overcrowded housing

  • Living in substandard housing

  • Being a resident of subsidized housing

  • Does not own a home at time of application

WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER
  • Household willing to perform minimum of 300 Sweat Equity hours

  • Have lived or worked in Sumter County for the last year

  • Committed to a drug-free community and no serious criminal history

  • Completion of homebuyer education course

  • Completion of financial literacy course

  • Save for closing costs and other related expenses

  • Participate in Sumter Habitat for Humanity events

ABILITY TO PAY
  • Income: must be stable and fall between 30-80% of HUD Area Median Income Guidelines.

  • Delinquent Debt: All delinquent debt must be paid off before home purchase.

  • Outstanding Debt: Total debt to income ratio must not exceed 43%.

  • Credit Score: Sumter Habitat for Humanity does not require a minimum credit score for approval.

STEP

01

Information Session

All interested individuals are invited to view a mandatory Homeownership Program Information presentation during the open application cycle, complete a quiz demonstrating you watched the presentation (you much answer 6 of the 8 questions correctly), an application packet will be emailed to you within 72 hours. 

If you answer more than 2 questions incorrectly, you will be notified to reread the presentation and submit another quiz.
