HOW LONG IS THE WHOLE PROCESS?
The homeownership program application process takes a total of about three months. The construction and sweat equity portion of the process may take ten to fifteen months. Expect the total time from application to loan approval to move-in to be 12-18 months. Each home build takes about 9-12 months on average. Most builds are completed one at a time, and selected families must wait in a queue for their home construction to begin. ​
WHAT IF I AM NOT APPROVED?
If applicants do not meet Sumter Habitat for Humanity criteria for homeownership and are not selected into the program, they will receive a letter with a description of the reason and a list of HUD approved Financial Counselors or a referral to another qualified organization. Applicants that are not approved are welcome to schedule with our staff to discuss their application in more detail.
IS THERE A LIMIT TO HOW MANY TIMES CAN I APPLY?
There is no limit to how many times an individual can apply for a Habitat home, so we encourage applicants who do not make it the first or second time to reapply!
