We're grateful for so many things every day but this time of year always gets us reflecting on what we're thankful for here at Sumter Habitat for Humanity. One of the things we are so thankful for is our dedicated #volunteers! We'd like you to meet one of our construction volunteers--Tim!
It was just a few months ago when Tim was introduced to Habitat for Humanity. His squadron from Shaw Air Force Base came for a team build day and Tim was hooked after day one!
Tell us about yourself:
"I grew up in La Marida, California (Southern California). For the last 5 years I've been serving in the United States Air Force as a PMEL Technicial (I help make sure all the tools that are used at Shaw AFB are up to code and safe to use). Being in the South is a whole new world to me but I'm enjoying my time here!"
What do you do for fun?
"I've recently gotten into yoga and I've really been having fun with that. I try to go at least once a week on base or here in town. If I'm not working or practicing my yoga, there's a good chance that I'm playing video games."
How did you become involved with Habitat for Humanity?
"I actually started here with a group from my squadron. We came out on a team build day and it just kind of stuck with me. I was looking for a way to get more involved with my community so I keep coming back. I try to come out to the site as often as I can."
"I love learning and Sumter Habitat for Humanity makes it fun and easy. Plus, I love knowing that the skills I'm honing now, I will be using one day in my future when I own my own home."
What is it like to be a volunteer here?
"Its been a great experience so far! I've learned a lot and met a lot of m great people. It's great knowing you're helping make a difference in someone's life and having them out on the site working with you!"
Thank you Tim! We love you and appreciate all of your hard work!
