We are so excited to have a very special guest post to share! This will be a new series we will post every so often about the magic items you can find at the ReStore and how bringing them to life again is more than just a fun DIY project. Here with us today is our very beloved Kristi, an avid Repurposer, ReStore regular, and awesome Habitat volunteer! Take it away Kristi!
Hello. My name is Kristi Hipkins. I am a mother of three amazing kids and a wife to a doting husband. I have lived most of my life here in Sumter, SC. During this time, I have heard of several organizations that accept donations to “better our community”. There is one thought that is my favorite. Habitat for Humanity is that organization!! I would love to share with you why I love Habitat for Humanity. In doing so, I will show you the step by step process on how I took something old and repurposed it for a purpose.
I look at the original state of this chandelier and I see how worn out, old and forgot this item is. It was covered with dust and had rust spots in various places. This is exactly how people come to us. We are all broken and in need of some type of repair. People come to a point in life where they want to feel better or do better than their current situation. That is exactly how a felt
for this chandelier.
The next stage was to take it all apart, clean each item and paint it. At this point you are able to see the beauty that was hiding under the layers of dirt and dust. This is also how people are. When we open ourselves to serving others we are cleaning away the selfish layers we have. When we donate to Habitat for Humanity we are sharing love and a piece of ourselves. Through our donations of items and time, we are helping families have better future. These families have the opportunity to repurpose their lives for a better purpose.
Once the item is painted the best part happens. You put it all back together again to see a new and refreshed item. This chandelier was once an indoor light. It was repurposed for a purpose. It is now a chandelier for someone’s back yard. It will shine bright again. It will be a reminder to “never give up”.
Thanks so much for sharing this amazing project with us Kristi and for sharing your passion for the work that we do!
We are excited to announce that this very special chandelier will also be our GRAND PRIZE GIVEAWAY during the Sumter County Fair September 26th-30th! Be sure to come check out the Sumter Habitat booth for your chance to win!
