We deserve to feel strength and stability day after day. We deserve to know we have the power to take care of ourselves and build our own futures.  At Habitat for Humanity, this is what unites us. Through shelter, we empower. Our shared vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.  Because you, me, we--we're all humans. And every single one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future.

Mission

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Sumter Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Vision

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

All Are Welcome

Sumter Habitat for Humanity has an open-door policy. All who believe that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of who they are or what they believe.

As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize.  This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Mission Principles

  • Demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ
  • Advocate on behalf of those in need of decent shelter
  • Focus on shelter by building and renovating simple, decent, affordable houses
  • Engage community members through inclusive leaderships and diverse partnerships
  • Promote transformational and sustainable community development

Core Themes

Strength

A Habitat home is a strong foundation for a family, an opportunity on which they can build a better life. Strong and stable homes help build strong and stable communities.

Stability

A Habitat home is a stabilizing force for a family. Better, affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development and the ability — and financial flexibility — to make forward-looking choices.

Self-Reliance

Through shelter, we empower.  A decent place to live and an affordable mortgage help homeowners save more, invest in education, pursue opportunity and have more financial stability.

Shelter

Buying a Habitat Home Takes Hard Work-Homeowner candidates contribute “sweat equity” building their home and the homes of others in partnership with volunteers and contractors. In addition, Habitat homeowners participate in a series of educational classes designed to prepare candidates for successful homeownership. Rather than a “hand-out” a Habitat home is truly a “hand-up”, allowing home buyers to build skills for a solid future.
